BACK FROM SHORE LEAVE

As always, had a great time at Shore Leave. Kathleen, Ariel and Caroline were in tow, and Caroline smiled at everyone and charmed them while Ariel enjoyed total freedom to go and do whateve she wanted in the family friendly security of the hotel. Still for my money *the* best Trek/Media con for families to attend.

Andrea Thompson was an incredibly good sport as she joined us for the opening sketch of Mystery Trekkie Theater 3000, and the world premiere (and, by coincidence, closing night performance) of "Bye Bye Buffy" went off, not without a hitch, but with only one or two minor hitches. And these were more than made up for by the talent and enthusiasm of the cast and director, who came up with some wonderful twists and augmentations on what I'd written (a gag involving a Klingon Weather Report used actual live Chroma Key to present the Klingon standing in front of a weather chart explaining why today was a good day to die, as was tomorrow, but over the next few days weather conditions would make dying less good.) Plenty of people in the audience and very enthusiastic.

Also spent time with the ever-delightful Carolyn Seymour, briefly spoke with Marina Sirtis, told Alan Ruck how much I liked his work, and discovered that Phil Morris is a big fan of Spyboy.

"Bye, Bye, Buffy" going bye-bye? Why? If it was well received, and it sounds like it was, can't you revive it at other conventions until, y'know, *I* get a chance to see it....?

I mentioned it over at the previous Bye Bye Buffy thread, but I'll repeat it here - Bye Bye Buffy was a definite highlight of the weekend. Loads of jokes coming fast and furious from every direction on loads of subjects (though I was surprised that I didn't notice a Bakula/Dracula joke - maybe I missed it).

Rachel and I had a great time. This was her second convention - the first being last year's Shore Leave with James Marsters.

The Mystery Trekkie Theater 3000 was great as usual, though, it was too bad you didn't use an episode that featured Marina Sirtis more (but maybe that was one of things considered in choosing Captain's Holiday).

Rachel was quite pleased to meet you briefly to get your signature in her program book. She wanted to mention that one of her best friends is also named Ariel, but she must have been too excited at the time.

Anyway, we had a great weekend and enjoyed Bye Bye Buffy tremendously.

Any chance we could see the script for Bye Bye Buffy posted here?

Posted by: LARRY at July 14, 2003 01:46 PM

Forget the script,(Although it would be nice to see) did anyone TAPE it?

I know I'd like to see it performed and if that's the only way, I'd settle.

I think I overheard Peter arranging to get a tape of it for himself from the convention. I doubt tapes would be available for purchase.

Pack: We would probably consider doing BBB at other cons if they could cover the cost of bringing in the cast, stage crew, light crew, sound crew, and SPFX department. I figure $10,000 would do it, although that might change a little depending on where the con is held. If you can get someone to put up the cash, let us here at "Tower Productions / Unconventional TheaTreks" know. (We're the crew who performed BBB.)

Neil: When "Captain's Holiday" was chosen as the victim of MTT3K, Marina Sirtis had not yet been announced as a guest at Shore Leave so it would have been impossible to select an episode more appropriate to her presence. Anyway, I’m glad you had a good time and, no, in spite of what Peter implied about me, I haven't downloaded any naked pictures of Andrea Thompson.

EJA: You want to see the script, huh? (Peter, would you want to post the original script? Or the script as performed? Makes no nevermind to me. - TAC)

Larry: Yes, the show was taped but those copies are strictly controlled and never generally released. Heck, I directed BBB and I have to make special arrangements to get a copy for myself!

Peter, Lew says you requested 4 copies for your own use? Where the heck are those going? You’re definitely getting them. I'm just curious so I can pass the info along to the cast and crew.

Thanks again for a wonderful script and terrific opportunity.

Peter, I'm glad to hear that Alan Ruck was there. Are we to understand that he is now fully recovered from the infection that caused his kidney failure a few years back? Are his kidneys okay now, or is he on dialysis? Please let us know. Thanks.

Oh!!! I second that request for the BBB script (or even passages)!

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed "Bye Bye Buffy"! My friend Cat and I dragged my Dad to come with us to view the musical, pretty much the only reason we wanted to go to Shore Leave. (Although the fact that Christopher Judge aka Teal'c was there was another reason...) It was wonderful! (And as Cat expressed later, much more entertaining then "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.") All three of us enjoyed the play very much!

And it was nice to see my friend Ian in the play! I didn't realize he was cast, although that picture of "Spike" on the movie poster looked vaguely familiar... ~_^;; It was a nice surprise running into Ian's girlfriend and going, "What are you doing here?" ... "Ian's in the play! He's Spike!"

The Klingon Weather Channel spoof was one of my favorite parts and the "Scott Bakula" song was hysterical! ^_^;; For having only six weeks to throw it together, the cast did great.

And Mr. David, you have a wonderful singing voice. ^_^;; Cat and I were part of the small crowd gathered around you while you had your "groupies" rattle off song titles from "Bye Bye Birdie" while you sang the "Bye Bye Buffy" version. ~_^;; (We were the quiet ones standing to your immediate left.) I was disappointed that I didn't get a chance to talk to you, however, for I wanted to express how much I enjoyed "One Knight Only." But being part of the group and listening while you talked about the play, told us of the inspiration for "Fun With Klingon's" and poor Shana at the Tori Amos concert made up for it. ^_^;;

And Cat's still talking about the "Pre Show" when you demonstrated to the audience how to turn off their cell phones and successfully locked your phone instead. ~_^;;

And I do agree. Shore Leave is a wonderful convention. I go mainly to look for Stargate SG-1 stuff for my brother, but I've always enjoyed walking the floor and window shopping. ^_^;;

Oh, and by the way? Caroline's so cute! She looked like she was having the time of her life. ^_^;;

Thanks for everything, Mr. David!

Glad to see people enjoyed BBB so much. We were all a little concerned about mounting a musical with only six weeks' rehearsal, but it came together, didn't it?

Our director did a fine job, and thanks again to Peter for a great script!

I'm giving one to James Marsters when I see him at Dragon*Con. I'm sending one to Carolyn Seymour. One is for my own files. And the fourth is a just-in-case copy.

I knew I would regret missing Shore Leave this year [Michael and I were REALLY planning to make it this year!], but I'm still banged up from my accident. Glad you had a good time.

I missed you yet again at the NY Sci-Fi show at the end of June. We've got to stop missing each other like this. People will talk.

Peter -

Ya know, Shore Leave was really great, but help me out here...

Please surgically remove "So we will have 3 good days to die, followed by 2 not so good days to die" out of my head...

It was awesome to see you at SL! I V-taped you comment on the radiation/ Hulk thing...LOL! I'm sorry that I missed the BBB, if possible can I order a copy?! Oh, and by the way...we (Ohio) transferred the River Styx back to where it orginated from... in Pittsburg :)
