Ordering for Apropos

Simon of "Economic Comics" sent me the following:

Quite surprised you haven't mentioned that SIR APROPOS OF NOTHING is released in comic format soon - might be a few folk who would pick it up, but don't realise (IDW not having the marketing presence of Marvel, for example)...

Cut-off for pre-orders on the book is Friday (in the UK anyway) and I, for one, want to make sure I order enough copies! I ordered loads of New Frontier #1, but not many people really picked it up until #3 was released, by which time I had reduced my orders for #4 and #5 and didn't have enough...! (aaaahh - the joys of advance solicitations)

Just my thoughts / experience.

So now you all know. If you want to make sure your store carries the first issue of "Sir Apropos of Nothing," give them a heads up. Don't just assume they'll have copies. In fact, safer to assume they won't so you can be ahead of the game.

First off, Happy Birthday Peter! Hope you have a great day with friends and family.

Secondly, I'll be running out to the comic shop this week to let 'em know. In about two weeks, I'll be pimping it (and many of your other projects out) on Made Of Fail, the podcast I cohost, during a Why Peter David Is Awesome segment. I'll let you know when it's up.

Or, if you want to be really, really nice to your pet fangirl, could I get you to record a quick "This is Peter David and you're listening to Made Of Fail" mp3 snippet? I'd love to put it up in front of your segment.

Mine is pre-ordered through Westfield. I always find out about new offerings through them. The only problem is that they are delivered once a month, so I need to avoid the comics threads on this blog so I won't run into spoilers. I usually get my books at the end of the month and I like to be surprised.

Happy birthday Peter.

I'll send an e-mail to my comic book shop asking them to reserve it.

Peter, I forget: Is this all-new material, or an adaptation of the novels?

Oh, and Happy Birthday. :-)

Happy Birthday from me, too! :)

Thank you for letting us know about the Apropos comic: I had no idea and would have missed it!

I have just sent emails to my two comic suppliers, just to make sure in case one of them has trouble to get these comics.

Happy birthday.

I'm thrilled to see this adaptation. Apropos (particularly the first novel) has been one of my favorite Peter David Productions. Is it intended to be a straight adaptation of the novels? And if so, are there plans for the series to extend beyond the 3 published books?

Happy Birthday!

Somehow I was unaware of Apropos' revival in comic form. I am thrilled. I loved the books and look forward to buying the comic!

David the lawyer: I was wondering the same thing. According to CBR, it's a new story which takes place after the third novel: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=17471

Happy Birthday, Peter!

Your birthday was mentioned on the DC History list today, citing your full name as Peter Allen David. Some people questioned the spelling of your middle name, claiming that it seems an atypical spelling for a Jewish family. The contributer says that it's the spelling found on a number of sites. So? Allen, Allan, or Alan?

(And yes, we really should find more important things to concern ourselves with.)

Thanks,

yes! yes! Yes! also, happy birthday peter!

Posted by: Peter David at September 23, 2008 11:38 PM

"Allen" is correct.

And yes, the new series is a wholly original story, entitled, "Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves."

IDW has done a great job for the floppy-to-trade for Fallen Angel and I've been picking it up that way, so I'm gonna grab this one when it comes out. I'm still looking for that Apropos short story "...Heir", which I would love to read soon.

IDW's Chris Ryall posted previews of the first 3 pages (minus captions) on his blog. The first page should look very familiar, it's that way for a reason and I just hope that Jae Lee doesn't come after me with a baseball bat.

Thanks for the reminder, I'll ask about ordering it tomorrow. Not that that guarantees anything, based on past experience.

A birthday thing:

Props to the pro who birthed Apropos!
To he who's inspired many letters to "Oh So!"
A space case, a hard place, a tigerheart'd Joe
Happy birthday to Peter. How to write stuff? He knows!

...There. Silly, but quick, both to write and to read. Happy birthday, Mr. David!

It would be nice if IDW actually had any information about Sir Apropos of Nothing on its website.

Can I bitch for a moment? Peter, why don't you have a "shameless self-promotion" box on your site saying what exactly you're currently writing or what to look for in the coming months? For me who is more a casual fan (but a fan nonetheless), it would be nice to be able to go to your site and see exactly what to look for in the comics shop (or tell my friendly shop owner to pull for me).

I haven't been paying attention to new books lately, but Mile High just got an order for this one.
