Happy Mother's Day

To my own mom, celebrating her first mother's day in her new house (a mere stone's throw from the house of my sister's family, including two little granddaughters), and to Kathleen who is both a great mom and stepmom.

If you grew up with loving, responsible parents as I did, it's easy to take them for granted. My girlfriend, however, works for Child Protective Services, and has seen what happens to children born to parents to stupid or cruel to treat their offspring in a humane fashion. Every time I'm tempted to dwell on the little things my parents did wrong, I think about some of the horror stories my girlfriend has told me. It helps me to realize that it is impossible to overstate the value of what my parents provided to me as I was growing up.

I gave my mother a $50 Amex gift card today. She questioned why I was spending so much on her gifts lately. She thinks $50 from her son is "a lot." Bless her heart. $5,000,000,000,000 wouldn't be enough to repay her.

You've been throwing stones at your mother's newhouse?

That dosn't seem like very nice behavior for a son at all!

for shame!
