Happy Days are here again

Strike Buddies.jpg

I walked with the WGA picket line outside Viacom last Thursday. It rained steadily, as it did the previous time I walked it. Fortunately I had interesting company to chat with; trooped alongside Ron Howard for an hour chatting about his upcoming project, a film version of "Frost/Nixon," the Broadway show dramatizing the David Frost/Richard Nixon interviews.

Considering I spent the previous weekend hanging with Henry Winkler, all I have to do is run into Ralph and Potsie.

I'm a little disappointed by those signs. Most of them just say "On Strike." I was kinda expecting something more elaborate.

It is a *writers* strike.

I don't see a tuxedo.

But if it's a *writers* strike, wouldn't you expect the signs to be blank?*

* Apologies to whoever slung this joke on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. It was too good not to steal.

Re:Tudexo

This was before the announcement of the resumption of talks so no Tudexo.

Oh if only Ron had also brought along Bryce Dallas...

And looks like it was better strike weather, in which case, yay!

My son and I saw the Nixon/Frost play when we were in New York this summer. It was very interesting, I was too young during the Nixon years to really understand what was going on and only knew David Frost from things he did after that interview. It could make an interesting film.

Of course, my younger kids liked 'Spamalot' more....

Just out of curiosity, did you mention to Ron you were hanging out with Henry the prior weekend?

Writer's can't stop writing, even if they're only writing sign slogans. It's an addiction. They can stop writing for person X or corporation Y, but they'll find other things to write - like blog entries, or scripts for YouTube skits.

I don't believe I just did that. If you look at the name in the comment above, and at your keyboard, and replace each letter with the key on its right, that's my name.

Your other right.

Thanks for the clarification on timeline, Kath. So should we be expecting classic black jacket/tie or will he be going for something from the Bond collection with white jacket? I would personally push for a nice crushed red velvet to keep with the red shirt theme, but each man must bow to his own style. Or his wife's.

Do you guys have a schedule of where you are striking? Or is it that you all split up and take different streets?

Just wondering since every day I walk outside and see the strike its in a completely different spot :)

Strike, protest and teatime chat in one eh?

You don't need Ralph and Potsie; they're nerds! :p

Henry Winkler = awesome. He's the man who gave us "McGyver."

OOoooooh, PAD, you could do a series about McGyver!! Make it all sci-fi, bond him with a suit of alien armor, and you could call him McGuyver!!

"Make it all sci-fi, bond him with a suit of alien armor, and you could call him McGuyver!!"

Sounds more like a sequel to Highlander 2.

"There should have been only one."

We have a schedule, yes, in that the demonstration sites are set up by union leadership and then we're informed of where it's going to be via e-mail.

Didn't you meet them when most of the HAPPY DAYS gang was at DragonCon two years ago?

Posted by: Eric! at November 20, 2007 01:24 PM

Your such a "dren" PAD!

Posted by: Stephen Bergstrom at November 20, 2007 04:20 PM

Eric!, the last time I heard that word used was also the first time, which was when Joanie said it.

And yes, yes he is.

If I met Ron Howard, I would want him to say two things.

1. "It's Arrested Development."

2. "I just want to say that no one is making fun of Andy Griffith. I can't stress that enough."

dosn't Donny Most rise up out of the mist at dusk?

Posted by: Carl at November 20, 2007 11:10 PM

I was glad to see that my union (the Musicians Union) has finally come out in support of the WGA. We've been uninvolved too long!

Posted by: thejohnwilson at November 25, 2007 12:50 PM

Im hoping for a picture with Donnie Most holding A PAD BID Most Award. :)

Good luck with the strike Peter. Hope it ends favorably for the writers soon.

Until later
John
