Man of La Mancha opening soon

You may remember some weeks back that I announced I was playing "Sancho" in a community theater production of "Man of La Mancha" in Bellport, Long Island.

Well, the show opens this Friday, and runs for four evening performances--the 19th and 20th, and the 26th and 27th. Ticket information can be found below: (and yes, that's me in the picture on the right.)

Directed a local amateur production of Man of La Mancha four years ago. It's a great show, and Sancho is a peach of a part. Break a leg!

Oh my GOD, Peter, you get skinnier and skinnier every time you show off pictures of you! What are you trying to do, look like you were drawn by Michael Turner or something? :)

I don't know how you keep it up, man. My husband just this week forced me to start exercising at gunpoint. (Inactivity+Mountain Dew+several antidepressants = a 40-lb. overweight Dayna) I envy you your determination.

Wish I could see the play; I love Man Of La Mancha. I get "Dulcinea" stuck in my head for weeks. Are you allowed to toss bits of it up on YouTube if anyone records it?

I love this play and its songs. It's the only musical I've ever been to. Break a leg.

Fracture a femur, PAD. If I might ask, one board treader to another, when you're in a show, what's the general atmosphere backstage?

Good luck with the show Peter.

"Fracture a femur, PAD. If I might ask, one board treader to another, when you're in a show, what's the general atmosphere backstage?"

The usual: A great deal of adrenaline being focused into putting on as good a show as possible.

I appreciate the good wishes from you all. I must admit, I'm also curious whether anyone is actually going to be attending. You don't have to all say, "No, sorry." Just wondering if anyone is going to be able to make it.

Oh, and understand, I'm not expecting it nor desiring it, but the management has instructed all cast members to say: For God's sake, if you brought flowers or something, don't run up and present them during curtain call. I feel ridiculous saying it because typically only women get brought flowers, but anyway, like I said, it was a blanket instruction, so I'm doing as I was told.

PAD:

Leg Break (you know the drill). I wish I was close enough to come. I love the show and would truly enjoy seeing you in the show, but alas, I live in Ohio and that is a bit of a drive for a 2 hour show. (Not to mention the whole meals, hotel room, etc.)

Break a leg!

I'm hoping to make it to one of this weekend's performances, probably Saturday... and as requested, I won't run up with flowers. However, I hope applause and calls of "Bravo! Bravo!" will be welcomed. :)

I'll try to be there either this Friday or next Saturday, Peter. After all, I saw the show the last time you played Sancho, at the Commack Y, back in 2000. Are you playing the part any differently this time, either through insight of your own or due to a different director?

A bit of both. Different directors want different things, plus there's a number of things that I'd rethought and am approaching differently.

I have fond memories of this show -- 'twas the first I ever worked on, back in high school (surprisingly high quality production; it was the director's last year before retirement, and he decided to blow that year and the next's budget on it). I was on stage crew, and I had to winch up the freakin' huge staircase every night.

So, PAD, I must ask -- are you a tenor or a baritone/bass (i.e. the movie version)?

Posted by: The StarWolf at October 18, 2007 10:44 AM

Not a hope. Have to get passport renewed first. Not much chance of that with 11 hour days at the office recently.

Keeping paws crossed for you, though. Knock 'em unconscious. (If you knocked 'em dead, they wouldn't be able to buy a ticket for the next night's performance.)

I`d like to see your performance of Sancho very much, Mr. David.

- BTW, what happened to your mustache / Schnurrbart? Don`t you miss it sometimes??

Good luck for your performance.

Viel Glueck mit ihrem Auftritt.

I'm going to try to make one of next week's shows.

I wanted to point out that in the October 18th issue of Rolling Stone there is a glowing review of the comis adaption of King's "Dark Tower".
They heaped praise on the art by Lee and Isanove.
But does not mention PAD or Furth once!
These comics don't write themselves. Seesh.

Wanted you to know my copy of the Fallen Angel Hardcover came in and it looks wonderful, though according to my LCS they didn't shrink wrap it so my dust cover is a little dinged up.

Mr. David,

I expect that you're getting ready for tonight's performance as I write this. So: Break a leg.

WOW PETER! You sure know how to keep yourself busy. Not only are you doing Community Theater next week, but also a Shulkie signing with Danny Slott Thursday 10/25 at Jim Hanley's Universe! I wish I had the time to go to both, but sadly i guess I'll have to settle for JHU
