Favorite X-Factor characters?

Just out of the sake of my own curiosity, I'd be interested to know who your top two favorite X-Factor characters are? I'm saying "two" going on the assumption that if I said "Who's your favorite" most people would say Madrox.

So who're your top two?

Feel free to pass this query to other boards. I'd like to know peoples' opinions.

Am I the only one who immediately thought "uh oh, PAD's looking to kill someone off, and he's trying to hit readers where it hurts most..."

Maybe I invest too much time thinking "What Would Joss Do?" with shows I like.

Guido has always been a favorite of mine. Him and Syren would be my vote.

Posted by: Kevin Hines at October 9, 2007 03:23 PM

Madrox, then Layla, followed closely by Riktor.

Oh, so I gave a top three. Make it four, or five, because I enjoy Siryn and the not-actually a member Quicksilver a lot too.

Posted by: David S. at October 9, 2007 03:27 PM

To give you an idea of how long it's been since I've read Xmen, I would say The Beast and Cyclops.

Are they still members? Are they still considered "Xmen?"

Posted by: hoai vuong at October 9, 2007 03:29 PM

Madrox is my obvious first choice. He's turned into my favorite mutant character through these pages!

Rictor is definitely second. I was disappointed to see so many non-powered mutants written off (literally) after the decimation, but I've been amazed with how you've been able to keep Rictor an active member of the group who definitely pulls his weight. Great stuff!

Posted by: JosephW at October 9, 2007 03:48 PM

To David S: Well, Beast and Cyclops are still X-Men, but they're not part of X-Factor (not in well over a decade, at any rate).
As to the topic at hand, my faves tend to change from time to time. Today, though, I guess I'd have to list Jamie and Rictor as the top two. Rahne and Layla are pretty close (I've always liked Rahne since the "New Mutants" GN) and the two of them, Theresa, and even Monet have had their time at the top. About the only character who's never been at the top of my list is Guido. Don't get me wrong--I do like Guido. He does have his moments where he really shines. But this is pretty much like any team with a lot of personal faves, somebody HAS to come in last.

1I'm going to buck the trend and shift Madrox done the list a bit. I admit that I like him better now than I ever have in the past, but he just doesn't warrant the top two for me. I prefer Layla then Siryn.

I'd have to say my favorite two in X-factor are Madrox and Rictor... followed closely by Rhane and Quicksilver.

Top 7 in rank order

1) Rahne
2) Layla
3) Siryn
4) Strong Guy
5) Madrox
6) Rictor
7) Monet

Madrox and Madrox

...

Seriously, though: Madrox and Layla

Posted by: jcpetersen at October 9, 2007 04:02 PM

1 - Rahne. Very believable power set/characterizations. (And since I gave one of my daughters the middle name "Rahne", I'd better put it number 1.)

2 - Monet. Again, it's a believable match of characterization and power set. Yes, she acts like she is better than everybody else, but she really is better than everybody else, so is the attitude justified?

Posted by: Lorin at October 9, 2007 04:04 PM

Layla, of course.

And Siryn, for old times sake.

Kill Rahne, please.

Posted by: David Hunt at October 9, 2007 04:05 PM

Tough decision. I can give you my top four...

First: Jamie
Close Second: Layla Miller
Third: Monet
Close Fourth: Everybody Else.

Hmmm...I guess Jamie and Layla come out on top since they're both a good distance over the others, but I like them all. A lot. I just hadn't thought about quantifying this until you asked...

Posted by: Frank at October 9, 2007 04:08 PM

My top two:

Monet: She got all of Magneto's anti-anti-mutant attitude, with none of the megalomania. She likes to pretend she's detached from everything, but her actions in support and defense of her teammates betray that front.

Layla: Who couldn't love that adorable little smart-ass. I picture she spends her downtime gawking at the outfits on Go Fug Yourself and reading Television Without Pity. Their snarkiness give Layla a run for the money.

Madrox and Madrox

Your punishment for making me laugh and almost getting me caught checking this at work is to be placed in a small space with Maddrox and strike him 1000 times.

Posted by: Queen Anthai at October 9, 2007 04:10 PM

Siryn and Rahne, in that order.

Posted by: Neil Sharp at October 9, 2007 04:20 PM

I would have to say Monet and Guido. Guido cracks me up, and Monet is interestingly unlikable. She creates a good foil for the other characters.

You know, my biggest concern about the aftermath of Messiah Complex is that we could lose the wonderful character dynamic that puts X-Factor on top of my reading list, especially having seen that Rahne will be involved in X-Force. Hopefully you won't lose her entirely.

1 Layla
2 Monet

but Quicksilver is really "intresting" and slipping further and further from redemption with each issue

Posted by: Jeff Morris at October 9, 2007 04:36 PM

I'd have to say Madrox and Layla, followed by Rictor , Monet and Theresa.

I don't know why, but Rayne really isn't catching my interest all that much, and Guido's been practically a non-entity ever since the Singularity storyline.

Posted by: Eric Qel-Droma at October 9, 2007 04:43 PM

Monet and Rahne, closely followed by Siryn.

I think that Madrox is probably the most interesting--if he weren't, the book in its current configuration would suck. However, whenever Monet, Rahne, or Siryn have panel time, my ears perk up.

Posted by: Malana at October 9, 2007 04:46 PM

I think Layla is probably one of my favorite characters in all of comics right now. I utterly adore what you've done with her. She's weird and creepy and snarky and always interesting.

Jamie would have to be my second favorite, though I have a lot of fondness for all of them, really.

And if we don't hear more about the whole 'Jamie/Layla marriage' thing sometime in the near future, I shall be very sad.

Posted by: Auryn at October 9, 2007 04:55 PM

Layla and M. I've always had a thing for M. I don't know why.

I would say Rahne since I've loved her since her New Mutant days, but these days I'm just not sure who she is anymore. Too many writers with different angles have made her confusing. No offense to you, of course.

Posted by: J. Alexander at October 9, 2007 06:14 PM

Hmmm. During your previous run on the title I would have stated Guido and Quicksilver. As for your current run, I cast my vote for Layla and Madrox with Rahne running a close third.

Posted by: Ebonstone at October 9, 2007 06:43 PM

New or Old? (Refering to both your runs on X-factor)

Still Madrox and Strong Guy.

Posted by: Ross O'Brien at October 9, 2007 07:05 PM

1. Jamie Madrox. 2. Layla Miller.

Posted by: Micha at October 9, 2007 07:11 PM

I don't know. I like all of them. I like Madrox and Monet because I get what they're about. I like Guido and Rahne because I want to know what they're about. Syren and Layla in the middle. Rictor is the only one I don't care much about, but I don't know why.

Posted by: Matt Adler at October 9, 2007 07:15 PM

Easily Monet and Guido.

Madrox is fun, but I think the fact that he can literally be anybody has kept him from being fully developed as a character. Which is interesting in itself, but more in terms of plot than character.

Posted by: Rob Brown at October 9, 2007 07:27 PM

Rahne. I've always liked her. It'll suck hardcore if she leaves the team for some reason.

As for #2...Layla Miller. She's had some of the best lines and some of the best scenes.

NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING MY FAVORITE: Monet's a heartless bitch who needs to die ASAP. That, or turn out to be a Skrull, of course.

Posted by: Paul Galletley at October 9, 2007 07:33 PM

Siryn and Monet, closely followed by Layla.

Posted by: Shawn Backs at October 9, 2007 07:34 PM

Even though I've loved Madrox since the mayo jar, I've always found your takes on Guido and Pietro more humanizing and have liked them just as much as Jaime.
And I hated Quicksilver before X-factor so it's cool that your work with him made him likable in my eyes.

Posted by: areacode212 at October 9, 2007 07:47 PM

Madrox: 23 votes

Posted by: G at October 9, 2007 08:42 PM

Guido; he needs more lov'n.

There are several characters who could use more development but are fun. Layla has grown on me; I like Richtor, but mostly because I think that its silly the way that a lot of interesting characters have disappeared because they've lost their powers. Would their old friends really stop speaking with them? Would they just go off to Iowa and sit around?

Matrox is obviously interesting, but we're not supposed to talk about him, right?

Posted by: RickyD410 at October 9, 2007 08:51 PM

Hmmm.... I love Layla and Madrox. But lately, I've been REALLY loving Syrin and Monet. So I'll go with my new favorite tag-team.

1. Syrin
2. Monet

Posted by: Den at October 9, 2007 09:04 PM

Quicksilver and Havok.

Posted by: Dennis R. Upkins at October 9, 2007 09:07 PM

Not counting Jamie, who to be honest I never cared for until you began writing him and making him an exceptional character, my favorite two characters are probably Layla and Monet.

While both can be annoying, I like Layla's nonchalant approach to everything and it is nice and a refreshing to see a strong and sophisticated (which can sometimes be replaced with snobby) person of color, such as Monet showcased in a positive light and in a prominent role.

Posted by: Curtis W at October 9, 2007 09:13 PM

Favorite X-Factor characters?

RAHNE!

Then in the following order:
Madrox

ok. Actually, Layla anmd Guido.

Posted by: Matt at October 9, 2007 09:21 PM

Madrox and Quicksilver are both what I consider obvious choices, since you're known for (maybe arguably with Quicksilver) having the definitive interpretation of both. For me, the way you write Rahne has been hugely underrated - you've fleshed her character out far past "religious stereotype".

Posted by: Jose Fernandez at October 9, 2007 09:24 PM

Rahne & Rictor
I have a soft spot for all the old New Mutants.

Posted by: AER at October 9, 2007 09:30 PM

Posted by: Maria at October 9, 2007 09:45 PM

1- Layla. She's absolutely hilarious, incredibly mysterious, and cute yet quite scary. Dakota Fanning has nothing on her!

2- Monet. Again, I'm voting with my funny bone and saying this girl makes me laugh. She exudes confidence and pretentiousness, yet is more fun because she isn't as serious as her contemporaries.

Posted by: Brian O at October 9, 2007 10:40 PM

Layla - One of the most interesting characters of this decade. Has a Doctor Who like smugness when she knows stuff, but reverts to a little girl when she's caught off guard. I also love the continued ambiguity of her ultimate goals. Is she a hero that does evil things, or is she a vileness using the heroes to archive her ends?

Quicksilver - Good. Bad. He's they guy you can always count on to be a PRICK!

Posted by: Kate Willaert at October 9, 2007 10:40 PM

My favorite two characters in your first run on X-Factor were always Guido and Madrox, and that hasn't really changed. My third-fav character at the moment would be Layla.

#2 Madrox

1. Layla. Reminds me of myself at that age. Of course I can't see into the future anymore... which, come to think of it, I probably should have seen coming.

2. Madrox. Can't get enough of him. Ha ha. I made a funny.

Posted by: Joe at October 10, 2007 01:36 AM

1. Rahne (such depth, even since your first run!)
2. Guido (somewhat untapped potential here)
3. Madrox
4. Quicksilver (Still hoping for a return to the side of the angels)
5. Siryn
6. Richtor (Love what you've done since M-Day)
7. Layla Miller / Monet (Layla's a forced character & better be damn explained damn soon! Thanks alot BENDIS! :( & Monet is just bland/boring, she needs much more development for her to feel like "part" of the "team"

Posted by: Joe Again at October 10, 2007 01:38 AM

Yes!! RANDOM?! WHEN can you have him back from the other side of the X-Office!?!?!??! I'm desperate for him to turn out to be the Clay character in some way shape or form... or for you to just get his character back again. I'm sooo curious to know your original plan for that character.

Red Arrow.

Posted by: TallestFanEver at October 10, 2007 02:50 AM

1) Jamie Madrox
2) Any Jamie Madrox Dupe That's Paralysed With Existential Ennui And Refuses To Function Properly.

What can I say, I can't get enough of that bit.

Posted by: TallestFanEver at October 10, 2007 02:52 AM

I really hope this poll isn't so that PAD can tally up the votes and bump off the winner. That would just suck.

Posted by: Lea at October 10, 2007 03:06 AM

Saying Madrox and a dupe would be cheating, right?

Anyway, Madrox is my favorite largely because he's the most developed (in this series, my X-history fu is weak) and because I'm always a sucker for powers that cause an identity crisis. It's hard to pick a second. They're all interesting, in their own way, and all of them have things happen to them that don't happen in other books.

I suppose Rictor has the best character arc, although because of the trauma of depowering, I don't feel like I've gotten a really good idea of who he is. Layla just manages not to be too creepy to be enjoyable.

I like everyone, but I think Monet gets the short end of the stick. I also read Astonishing X-Men, and so she has some overlap with Emma, and Emma just does it better.

So I guess bottom line is Jamie and Rictor, but it's a tough call.

Posted by: Steve at October 10, 2007 03:10 AM

Rictor and Guido

Posted by: thejohnwilson at October 10, 2007 05:02 AM

Layla and whomever the next non-mutant new member is.

I say that for simple reasons, you make me like them Peter. So whomever joins the team after the shakeup will be interesting to me

Madrox - my second favorite character is his priestly incarnation but the sides of him are very interesting

Theresa - from adding her vocal modulation to her powers to her feelings about her father's "disappearance"

Rictor - real reactions to losing part of himself

Rahne - losing the man she is in love with and falling into the arms of the man she loves for comfort - mutant or human - I'm sure that has never happen to anyone in real life (sarcasm)

Strong Guy and Monet are my least favorite because they haven't been fleshed out enough for me but I don't hate either of them

Until later
John

Well, Madrox obviously - and then by far Layla. She knows stuff, like Stephen Fry. I like that in a person.

Posted by: mikeabbott at October 10, 2007 06:44 AM

You made Madrox so interesting since the miniseries with the aspects of personality duplicates that the gap is very large. Forced to pick two I would go with Monet because a vain, callous, super powered bitch is fun to read about.

Strong Guy and Layla

Posted by: Van at October 10, 2007 10:17 AM

Layla Miller was really nothing more than a plot device, and she's become a great character in X-Factor and an easy favorite.

Besides her, I've also really enjoyed what you've done with Monet. She was another one dimensional character that's grown into more, though she's still kind of a bitch.

Posted by: BBayliss at October 10, 2007 10:23 AM

I am assuming (probably incorrectly) that any and all X-Factor characters are fair game, so: Strong Guy and Random.

Posted by: mystiemyth at October 10, 2007 10:24 AM

Rahne and Guido. Madrox would be third.

Posted by: Adam Sorkin at October 10, 2007 10:43 AM

1) Madrox is great. Never thought I would have found this guy interesting. I think it was headgear (and lack of characterization) - as I disctinctly remember finding that first independent dupe from the original "All New" X-factor who briefly re-absorbed him much more compelling.

2) Monet

Posted by: Luigi Novi at October 10, 2007 10:53 AM

Layla and Jaime, in no order.

They're powers offer the most intriguing possibilities for sci-fi writing, and I like what you've done with those premises, Peter.

Posted by: Mongoose at October 10, 2007 11:18 AM

1) Madrox has been my favorite X-Man since your original X-Factor run, so that was easy.

2) Layla by a nose. Her know-it-all little girl 'tude is hilarious.

Honorable Mention: Siryn. C'mon, she's a redhead, and redheads are hot! And I liked her back in the old X-Force days. Plus, her new voice modulation powers need to be explored more, methinks.

Posted by: Edward Ward at October 10, 2007 11:29 AM

Rahne and Guido have been favorites of mine for a long time and are, for that reason, probably my overall favorite characters in the title. Madrox, Quicksilver, and Layla are current favorites for what you are doing with them, but they are characters that are still entirely dependent on writer interpretation to hold my interest.

Madrox and Monet

Posted by: lustpuppet at October 10, 2007 12:21 PM

Jamie Madrox of course, is my favourite.

But other than him, I guess I will say... Monet. I can't even say why. But I enjoy a character who isn't totally the same old hero, who's personality is different than the usual.

Posted by: Tom Daylight at October 10, 2007 12:26 PM

Madrox, Layla and Rictor.

Posted by: Spike at October 10, 2007 12:48 PM

1. Of course Madrox. 2. Monet
if Quicksilver was a member I'd say him!

Posted by: Steve at October 10, 2007 01:10 PM

Layla and Jamie.

Followed by Rahne who from some of the promo pics I've seen of the new X-Force may no longer part of X-factor.

Posted by: Todd at October 10, 2007 01:17 PM

Monet. Beautiful, brilliant, and she knows it. She is so much fun to read.

Layla Miller. She knows stuff. Cool, spooky, playful, and vulnerable. I wish it would not take 30 years to see her grow up, but hopefully there will be many stories about how kewl she is now.

In all seriousness, Madrox is like number three.

So give these three some more page time, bump off strong guy, marry off Siren, and the comic will be even better. Well, more flirting, more sex, less violence, and about the same level of intrigue.

Still, a great book. About the only thing I get from Marvel.

Posted by: Matt D at October 10, 2007 02:09 PM

In the 90s I would have said Madrox as my #1. He's a BETTER character now, but I like him less, if that makes any sense. I could explain it if you want, but he's not in my top two so there's no need.

Probably Siryn and Rictor then.

I love Rahne (I grew up with her, in my own way) but there's so much baggage and I dread what will happen to her coming up.

Basically, I love all the characters though. So it's tough to make me choose. I just sort of grew up with Ric as well, which puts him above Guido.

Posted by: Teukro at October 10, 2007 02:23 PM

Quicksilver by far.
I'm trying to enjoy it before Marvel destroys him. They have been doing a super job so far.

Posted by: Teukro at October 10, 2007 02:30 PM

What's with all this love for Layla? That really shows the great work that David is doing with that sad idea from House of M.

Posted by: Mory Buckman at October 10, 2007 03:06 PM

I don't think any of the characters are as cool as Layla. But if I really had to pick a second I guess I'd go for Quicksilver.

Madrox and Layla...

(in the old series they probably were: Quicksilver and Strong Guy ).

Posted by: The StarWolf at October 10, 2007 04:16 PM

Layla - She's just too creatively annoying not to be a favourite for me.

Monet - Harder to say why though her actions in France are probably a big part of it.

Consolation prize goes to Guido. The few times I saw him in other books years back made him seem a parody character. You've made him a lot more interesting.

Posted by: RDFozz at October 10, 2007 05:46 PM

Probably have to go with Madrox and Layla, but I'm over a year behind in my reading on this book (I save the best for last, you see...)

I have a question that's unrelated to the survey, but this seems like a better place to ask than, say, the recent veto and Mets threads....

I just read SILENT WAR a few weeks ago, and unless I got very confused, Maximus claimed that one of the reasons Pietro went from being arrogant w/ anger management issues to being one of crazy, confused, or evil was that Maximus had pulled some mind control stuff on him. Also, there was something of a reveal, that Pietro has pierced himself about the torso with every last shard of the terrigen crystals he could find.

Without trying to drag you (Peter) into griping about anything: have you and David Hine had any discussions about Quicksilver, and is this something that you are including or ignoring in your developments with the character?

Posted by: michael t at October 10, 2007 05:56 PM

Layla and Monet...just find them the most interesting, and they without a doubt in my mind have the best lines...

Posted by: Richard Fisher at October 10, 2007 06:00 PM

Number one would by Layla Miller and number two is Wolfsbane. They are the reasons I'm reading the book.

Posted by: Rawhide Kid at October 10, 2007 06:57 PM

Madrox and Layla.
And Rictor, when he was merrier, will have been a close winner.
I agree with Jeff Morris when he says that Guido's been practically a non-entity ever since the Singularity storyline.

Ric is the only depoweree worth half a damn and singlehandedly carried the M-Day concept for the past 2 years. He deserves his place on the squad. Please, for the love of Jimminy don't throw all the hard work away by making him fodder for the Messiah Complex :(
Now where's me sword... Fekt!

Posted by: Drummah Jen at October 10, 2007 07:31 PM

I fear I am one of the Many that says Madrox...

But a close second is Siryn. I'm a huge Deadpool fan, and I've been really wanting to see them back together...or....back to....whatever it was they had...
Or maybe I'm just desperate for some closure after Cable and Deadpool getting axed..and some people have created false hope by saying he'd end up there.

...
Anyway, yeah...Madrox and Siryn.

bah.

Going back to your 1st X-Factor run, (the original Doc Samson issue is STILL my favorite!!!), I liked your take on Havok and Quicksilver.
I admit that money and an evil wife have limited my comic reading to when I can sneak away to Book-A-Million, so what I have read of the newer stuff has me liking Rictor( who I have always thought was underused as a character), and Maddrox, who i liked before.

Posted by: Kevin Jones at October 10, 2007 07:51 PM

Layla Miller: the idea of a precognitive hero is just fascinating to me. It was cool in Captain Marvel, and it's cool here. She's bratty, sure, but there's hints that there's even more to her than we can see. Plus, I have a sneaking suspicion she's actually evil. How cool would that be?

Rictor: I used to hate him, now I love him. He feels the most real of anyone in the book, and keeps surprising me. I don't know where his story's going, but you've made me excited to find out!

I love the whole team and it's really difficult to chose. But since you asked I will go with Madrox and Monet.

Posted by: Tyler at October 10, 2007 10:22 PM

Limiting to just 2 is so hard. Probably Madrox and Monet.
Though Layla, Rictor, and Siryn all are close for that #2 spot.

Posted by: DanMan at October 10, 2007 10:28 PM

Well of course I'd say Madrox... I see a lot of myself in him, especially in being indecisive. Which is why I'm going to take the spirit of the question and cheat my answer into extra characters, knowing that Jamie is #1 with no question, I'm going for Siryn and Guido. Of course favorite doesn't mean that I'd want to lose any of them and don't love them all. They all bring unique talents to the book... please don't kill them!

Posted by: Chris at October 10, 2007 10:36 PM

Madrox is one of the funnest and most witty characters of all time and he's easily my favorite x-factor character, Layla has been so much fun to read as well that she would have to be there....tied with monet, i cant vote one above the other! (and I feel bad I couldn't include siryn since shes been cool too. and for that matter madrox's dupes have been incredible throughout your revamp...! gah, ill stop before I put a tie on all the characters! ;P)

1. Monet St. Croix
2. Layla Miller

Monet is one of my favorite X-Men characters, and has been since her introduction in the first issue of Generation Next. But I've been consistently frustrated by her portrayal in X-Factor. She is one of the most capable, intelligent, powerful mutants on the face of the Earth. But she isn't a brat, she doesn't interest herself in frivolity or pettiness, and she is kindhearted and caring on the surface (not beneath it), despite being both blunt and sometimes unconcerned with feelings.

She's fundamentally good and moral, and focuses on excellence (both in possibility and deed) above all. If you read Generation X (and Generation Next before it) you'll see that her cutting comments aren't intended to lessen those she criticizes, but to push them to improve themselves or to upbraid them for not becoming what they so easily could.

She wouldn't be snide, wouldn't denigrate others for being less than she is (she might state that they are, but not to debase them), wouldn't wear bratty shirts, wouldn't stick out her tongue, wouldn't lose control when she's angry (would she be angry - Monet the reserved?). Monet wouldn't gleefully ask whether Jamie thought she or Theresa was better in bed - there's no logic in it, and she wouldn't be interested in a comparison with her obvious inferior.

I like Monet and I love X-Factor. I wish, though, that Monet were her (very cool and much more interesting) self in the title.

Posted by: James Seals at October 11, 2007 02:34 PM

Madrox.

He's the strongest, most original character in the X-verse. That and he just reeks of personality, whafting off each pore like cheap purfume and cheaper sex. (Sorry, couldn't help it.)

Second would have to be Layla Miller--surprisingly enough, even to me. I won't lie, I wrote Layla off as Bendis attempt to make up for all the killing he'd done in the year leading up to "House of M," and feared she'd been shoehorned for editorial reasons.

Boy, am I stupid. I've never been happier to be proven wrong. She's such a charming character, and I fell in love with her after her session with Doc Samson. Such well written dialogue, plus a Classic Trek reference!

1. Monet - She's a favorite of mine from GenX days. Although I miss her using her genius-level intellect and know-it-all attitude

2. Layla - maybe thats why I like Layla: she's Monet from GenX in X-Factor

3. Rictor - questionable sexuality and kickass persona. Miss his powers though.

4. Madrox - Great character

5. Syrin - I'm like Theresa more than I ever have before.

6. Rhane - I love Wolfsbane from waaaay back in New Mutants.

7. Guido - I like Guido in X-Factor the first time around, but he's always been my least favorite member of the team.

Posted by: Cosmicbard at October 11, 2007 07:06 PM

I honestly have to say that I long for the days of Havoc, Polaris, Strong Guy, Multiple Man, Quicksilver, and Wolfsbane. That group had some great chemistry. Although I can't honestly judge the current group because I haven't read any current issues. Sorry Peter. I've really been out of the loop working on my own stuff and just haven't gotten around to investing myself into another series.

Just thinking purely about the character's I like the most Guido would probably have to top that chart and than Mr. Madrox coming in a close second.

Actually now that I'm really thinking about it, I'm going to have to go check out some issues of X-Factor because I'm curious of just how the group has changed and what type of drama their dealing with currently.

Madrox is far and away my #1.

Beyond that the book is populated by characters that I don't care a great deal about, but don't actually dislike (Siryn, M), ones that I quite like but can't say I'm a fan of (Quicksilver, Layla Miller, Wolfsbane), one that X-Factor has made me like (Rictor) and one that I've always disliked (Guido)

I'll pick Wolfsbane as my number two because she seems like a tough character to write well, given that I like her character description but rarely like the stories she's in, and that you've changed that in X-Factor.

Posted by: AceOfKnaves at October 12, 2007 03:16 AM

Well of course Madrox is my absolute favorite, but it seems pretty apparant that what the real question was "who is your top two favorite characters besides Madrox?" I'll assume that Madrox is defacto Double Plus 1, or some sort of uber category that defies that laws of normal numerical ranking systems and is simply beyond all that.

In that case I pick Rictor and Monet, with Layla and the rest of the gang constantly giving those two a run for their money in maintaining their vaunted status.

Madrox and Guido, definitely. Layla, Monet and Theresa all follow. Rahne and Rictor I can do without.

Top four favourites

1. Valerie Cooper (a holdover from your first run)
2. Strong Guy
3. Monet
4. Madrox

1i'm too hoping it has nothing to do with killing the one with least votes cause i like them all...
but i noticed i missed layla dearly when she was absent in the Jamie quest issues. and of course i like jamie the man (the men?)

but the book rocks. keep all the characters!

7. Pietro

8. Strong guy :P

Posted by: Blaze Rocket at October 12, 2007 01:40 PM

Well, Jamie, clearly ^_~ And i think the joke's already been made about him being number one and two.

I don't think he's part of X-factor, but he's been in the book recently, and he IS my fav. X-men character ever (Jamie being number three on that list), so I'mma go with Pietro.

Though if I had to chose someone who was actually part of the team, I'd go with Rahne.

Posted by: Andrew at October 12, 2007 01:48 PM

Maddrox and Guido

Posted by: Elton at October 12, 2007 02:15 PM

I'm gonna go with Madrox and Monet

Posted by: josh at October 12, 2007 03:17 PM

so number one is easy (madrox.)

number 2: before x-factor 24 it was guido after x-factor 24 it is now layla. the part with the penny was classic.

I'm sure peter will change my number two next week considering it switches with every issue. to me that is great character development. oh and I know I'm not the only one wondering this but any idea if we will see layla/mardox wedding? or is this a plot device?

Posted by: joshschr at October 12, 2007 03:50 PM

I didn't read the original X-Factor much, but Maddrox has become a really interesting character under the new X-Factor.

I'd have a hard time picking my top 2, but an easy top 4 (cheating, I know) would be Maddrox, Layla Miller (she already knows this, of course), Monet and Siryn. No particular order.

C'mon. The characters with the best chemistry in the series are the top two, namely Layla and Pietro. It's a no-brainer.

1. Madrox
2. Layla

Posted by: Álber at October 12, 2007 06:12 PM

Layla.

...and Monet.

And then, Julio, Theresa, Pietro, and Jamie.

And finally, Guido and Rahne.

(Aaand yep, calling them by their first name means I really like them. A lot). :)

upon re-reading the question i see that you are simply asking for characters from the series and not actual team members. So I would like to change my vote to Vic Chaulker and Rhapsody!

Posted by: Brendan H. at October 12, 2007 07:59 PM

#1: Madrox

#2: Layla Miller

After that: Rictor, Siryn, Monet, Quicksilver

Behind them: Guido (though mostly because he seems underused), Rahne (she's incredibly well-developed, but still annoys me)

Posted by: denny at October 12, 2007 08:08 PM

Madrox and Guido are my favs.

And you're doing great things with Layla and Quicksilver.

Hmm...

I'll say Madrox and M.

Posted by: ATLittle at October 12, 2007 09:24 PM

1-Guido.
2-Layla.
Please don't pull a PAD on me.
Pleez, don't kill them!!!

Posted by: Sandra at October 12, 2007 09:27 PM

Jamie
Rahne

Posted by: Jess Willey at October 12, 2007 09:34 PM

Not counting Madrox... Guido and Rahne.

And if you are planning on killing someone--

Madrox has died several times. It doesn't seem to take. Rahne has an in with both a former valkyrie and a wolf prince who currently resides in Valhalla. So she'd easily be back.

But if you're planning on killing someone-- while not my favorite character-- the one to off would be Layla just because she's the only one (aside from Madrox) who really interacts with each member of the case in slightly different ways.

Posted by: Andrew Collins at October 12, 2007 10:42 PM

All of them, honestly. PAD has done a great job of making me care about characters like Rahne and Monet that I previously didn't care a bit about. That said, my top 2 are definitely Layla (who kicks all sorts of butt) and Jamie. Siryn is a close third. I'd love to see PAD write a reunion between her and Deadpool.

Posted by: jt at October 12, 2007 11:39 PM

1. Rictor
2. Monet

Posted by: stealthwise at October 13, 2007 01:36 AM

Madrox, then Strong Guy. Guido is being MASSIVELY underused right now.

Posted by: c-mccormack at October 13, 2007 01:48 AM

Layla's my number one. I'd actually say Quicksilver is number two if he counts.

Posted by: Dermie at October 13, 2007 01:58 AM

Madrox...and Layla. Rictor and Monet fight for 3rd place.

Posted by: cindercatz at October 13, 2007 03:31 AM

All of these characters are in like my top 15 or 20 characters right now, so...

Currently:
1. Rictor/Rahne- These two are my favorite two characters in comics now and the two I most look forward to reading together every month.

3. Madrox- You've done a fantastic job with him since you're first run, and he's a favorite as well.

4. Monet- I like her more in this book than I ever have before, all the way back through Gen X.
5. Siryn- She was always my second favorite X-Forcer behind Warpath when she was in the book, and I like her equally in this book. You're doing wonders with both of the girls.

6. Layla- You've made me really get to like her. That said, because she's a Bendis creation (technically) and Quicksilver's here to remind me of AvDis, if I had to pick one to lose, she'd be it.

7. Guido- He's just seemed like the odd man out, but I see that's actually kind of the roll he's playing and it works well.

8. Quicksilver- He's very entertaining in this book, but he overstepped the line with his dismissive order to dispose of Rahne. I just want him back to sanity now, pretty much, before something happens and I can't like him anymore. Also, he's an AvDis casualty, so marks against...

Old Series:
The order was (1)Quicksilver, (2)Guido, (3)Madrox, (4)Rahne, (5)Havok, (6)Random, then Polaris.

Posted by: Michael M Jones at October 13, 2007 03:54 AM

How can I pick favorites?
1. Madrox, of course. Awesome powers, great concept, so much potential to be explored. And he's off-beat and quirky.

2. Rahne, because I've always had a thing for her. I grew up with the original New Mutants, so the shy Scottish redhead was always a favorite of mine, even back then.

3. If I had to pick a 3rd, Guido. Mainly because you took this random mutant way back when, and thoroughly gave him personality, complexity, and an unusual twist on a rather generic power set (that even explained his messed up physique). He rocks.

Of course, Rictor, Monet, Layla, and Siryn all have their moments to shine as well.

I'm really hoping that you're just asking about this current series. Because opening it up to include the original X-Factor series, with its numerous iterations... no, wait, Madrox and Rahne still win. And Guido.

Posted by: Marcelo, from Brazil at October 13, 2007 08:39 AM

1º Jamie Madrox, obvious
2º Layla Miller, i love this litlle girl

Posted by: Dirk at October 13, 2007 09:53 AM

Obviously, Madrox is first. Behind him I would would have to say it's Layla. I just love the concept of a girl who builds elaborate Rube Goldberg type scenarios to get things to fall into place. Money would ne a close third, just because it's nice to have a character who is an actual bitch, knows it, and embraces it.

Posted by: Damien Whiter at October 13, 2007 11:00 AM

I like M's sarcasm. And Madrox, particularly when his dupes make passes at him.

1.Siryn

2.Guido

What ever happened to Artie and Leech?

Posted by: DennisMM at October 13, 2007 09:13 PM

Definitely Madrox, then Rahne (for whom I've had a great fondness since the New Mutants graphic novel).

As I don't see anywhere else to mention this, I'll put it here. I just read X-Factor #24. There is no identifiable signage except for the subway. That is, until Huber picks up a sedan, planning to squash Rictor. In the double-spread pp. 20-21 we pull back to see Monet holding the car at the rear bumper. Monet's dialogue balloon is above the car's roof. And next to that balloon, where it cannot be missed, is an exact duplicate of the US Army ads that sometimes run in Marvel comics.

Who is responsible for this? Why?

Posted by: Dasbender at October 13, 2007 10:31 PM

Madrox & Guido. With Rahne bringing up a close 3rd. The rest of the cast are a distant dot on the horizon compared to the main three.

Posted by: Jason at October 14, 2007 04:03 AM

Madrox and Monet.

Posted by: Pretentious Fool at October 14, 2007 05:39 AM

Being that everyone is going to say Maddrox, I will just assume he is exempt from the discussion.

In that case, my favorite two are Layla and Guido.

Posted by: Andy at October 14, 2007 07:32 AM

Siryn and Madrox. X-Factor is one of my fave books by the way. Keep it up!!

Posted by: Chris Griswold at October 14, 2007 11:32 AM

Madrox and Layla.

They're totally going to get married.

I really like Layla. She's a good omniscient character. I like characters like these. I would really like to see her meet She-Hulk just because She-Hulk apparently still knows that she's a comic book character.

Monet. Never read the original Generation X -stuff, it was way too childish (or so I thought back then) but this bitch really is the biggest reason I read this book.

Rictor. I want to see him end up in bed with Jamie so bad. :D

Is that Layla?
Yeah... and Monet.
Or Madrox.
You pick.

Posted by: Jon Dye at October 15, 2007 04:56 PM

1. Rahne. I've been following this character pretty much my entire comic reading career, and I judge a writer that does her by how well and true to the character they do with her. You and Claremont are the only people that really seem to "get" the character. Though that guy that did the relaunch of New Mutants did an okay job.
2. Guido. I have never seen such a throw away character utilized better than your using Guido. Totally awesome

Madrox is my favorite by far. My second favorite is a toss up between Monet or Layla

Posted by: Jasmine Loucks at October 15, 2007 05:04 PM

Well, my first conclusion is Madrox and Layla, but excluding Madrox... I dunno who I like next. I would say that if there's someone who would be cut out that I wouldn't miss it would be Guido, not because I don't like Guido, but mostly because I don't feel like he's been as well developed in the new X-Factor as everyone else has (and I've only read the new series). It's really hard for me to judge who I like best, but all I can say is that lately when I open up the comic I want to know what Layla's up to and lately I've been interested more in Richtor too. I'm actually planning on maybe dressing up as Layla for Halloween (I say this with my hair in pigtails... the first time it's been up for the last four years).

I have to go with Lyra and Pietro. Quicksilver was always my favorite character back in the last comic named X-Factor, and has remained a personal favorite ever since. He's taking a different role here than PAD'd last run, but he's still refreshing snide. As for Lyra, well, it's impossible to not love her.

Posted by: JohnLocked at October 16, 2007 10:48 AM

Madrox and Guido, definitely

Posted by: Daniel at October 16, 2007 06:17 PM

Madrox.

And Madrox's dupe.

That's probably not the first time someone used that joke, but I'm not reading 200 comments to find out.

Either Strong Guy or Quicksilver come in second.

Posted by: BG at October 16, 2007 07:31 PM

Yet another vote for Madrox, who has quickly become my favortie comic book character, not just X-factor member. Sure he's technically a "superhero," but he, more than anyone else in the Marvel U, is just a screwed up guy who happens to have powers.

After him, I really like Layla, mostly for her dynamic with the group.

And for a second non-Madrox choice, Rahne, again for the way she plays off of people.

Posted by: klynb at October 17, 2007 12:03 AM

Guido, then Layla.

Posted by: Matt Stover at October 17, 2007 12:42 PM

Hmmm. Of course Madrox. And then I'd have to say Layla, cause she knows stuff.

Tough choice though. I like Rahne, but I'm okay with her going to x-force. I could see Monet ending up in a different x-title too. But that's not to say I don't like Rahne and Monet in x-factor, I just feel like they would be easy to transition to other books. Guido and Siren are right where they need to be.

Posted by: Jesse at October 17, 2007 01:09 PM

Guido has always been my fav, from years ago until today!

Second, I would have to say Layla. Bendis might credited as creating her, but she is your baby.

The rest are close behind. I love Theresa, and you have made Monet a great character again. Ric comes and goes for me. Sometimes I like him and sometimes I don't. Rahne is a must have so am nervous that she might be leaving. Personally, I am a fan of Pietro as a jerk good guy, rather than an unstable badguy.

Still all around, they are all great.

Oh yeah, and Madrox is great too :)

Posted by: Jay at October 17, 2007 07:47 PM

Easily, my favorite is "M"--a character who has limitless potential and still not enough is being done with her. First, I'd love a rundown of all her powers--she comes as quite possibly, one of the most powerful characters in the MU and that's just with the powers I know (flight, invulnerability, super-strength and telepathy).

Second favorites are Layla--cause you've done an amazing job with her--giving her more wit and character than anyone else on the team, and Rictor--who I would like a lot more if you he got his powers back and actually turned out to be gay.

Posted by: Lingster at October 17, 2007 11:53 PM

The Judd Winick website is over here: http://www.juddwinick.com/

I understand Winick is getting ready to issue a press release (and a comic book, too!) revealing that Black Canary contracted herpes from Green Arrow. (Don't tell anybody.) Also on deck for 2008, a cancer-stricken 45-year-old Lian Harper will travel back in time to chew out Roy Harper for not ensuring she got her HPV vaccine as a child.

1. Rahne - Werewolf-Lady and Scottish, just a great mix, PAD.

2. Monet - Like a "Cordelia Chase" Comic Version, uper-class girl that can kick ass.

oh, if there is the chance to vote for No. 3

3. Syrin - funny how much she did resemble Neve Campbell on some pictures. - And the idea of the girl dating her in Issue No. 1, just very nice ;-)

Why just the girls? Dunno, Jamie M. is cool, too.

Posted by: Camax at October 19, 2007 04:45 AM

I love the team dynamics you write every issue, so it is really hard to pick my two favorites. It'll be different next time I think on it, but I think today:

1) Madrox - I hadn't really realized it, but yeah, he is the heart of the book to which many of the stories revolve, so assuming everything would be much different if he wasn't there, yeah Jamie'd have to be my favorite on the team?

2) Siryn - so close with the others, but I think Theresa might nudge into second. She's not much of a draw for me in the past, but I really enjoy her involvements in X-Factor.

You didn't ask, but in case you wondered...

3) M 4) Layla 5) Rictor 6) Wolfsbane 7) Strong Guy

Monet and Layla I see as more a comedic devices, which I absolutely love, but may be why Siryn just beats them out, since I feel like we get to know Theresa better, and that she's got more history. Layla obviously drives the story a lot more than just through comedy, and she's been an amazing addition. I love her interactions with Jamie, Monet and Rictor the most. Keep her! Rictor has a rich mutant history I have enjoyed, and for now I am enjoying him as just one of the guys. I know you like Rahne and Guido, and I enjoy reading whomever you have a hold of, but if these two had to take a leave of absense so you could try a few other characters to have fun with new team dynamics, they'd be who I voted off.

Posted by: Colleen at October 20, 2007 08:09 AM

1) Rictor

+++++++++++++++
(3) Madrox
(4) Syrin - better since Banshee died, now no longer a carbon copy
