At Shore Leave convention in Maryland, we performed a sketch in masquerade involving Beauty and the Beast..and the Beast...and the Beast. Beauty, a.k.a Belle, is Marina Olsen, costumed by her mom. Kathleen made the rest of the outfits. That's her as Vincent, with Ariel as the Disney Beast and me as the X-Men Beast. Neither the audience nor the judges knew it was me; I billed myself as "Hank McCoy." We took first place for Showcase of Champion and won Best In Show.

Peter! Holy crap, you got SKINNY! Awesomeness!
And Kathleen did an amazing job on the costumes, especially hers - that was my mom's favorite TV show back in the day.
That is completely awesome. I'm so sorry I missed the convention this year.
Dang sirt, if you look that svelte in as costume you must be a veritable rail!
GREAT job on the costumes! Kudos all around!
HAH! Next time you'll have to mix chemicals while hanging upside-down by your feet. Gotta keep topping what you did before, after all.
Amazing costume.
The pic lets you look like a cross between Beast and Elvis.
That's very clever. I'm also glad that some of Grant Morrison's changes are not being retconned out.

Holy crow, that is some fantastic costuming!!!
Beast, especially!! ;)
(Kathleen really did a fantastic job, Vincent is near-perfect!!)
Looks awesome. I missed Shore Leave. The two things that were the biggest draw for me was the Peter David crew and a friend, Laura Ware, who was one of the new authors in the Strange New Worlds book. :( Next time. Y'all surely did book the motels in the area. Everything sold out so it sounds like the con was good.
And I frakkin missed it. I knew my luck onb Friday the 13th wasn't bad enough.......
To steal one of your jokes, "Bestial my foolish heart..."
Congrats on the win. The four of you looked great! I saw the photo this morning on Kathleen's LJ and couldn't stop laughing. (I often laugh when impressed. It can be misinterpreted.)
Do you have a favorite skit among those you've done?
How much would you want to repeat this at Dragon*Con? If you can't get the rest of the crew, could you just costume yourself and, maybe, show up with the creator of Mystery Men? That's right, you could bill yourself as the Beast of Burden. And to top it off, you could sing a little of the Mick Jagger song.
"... one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
Now go, CAT, go!
But don't you step on my blue suede shoes..."
Couldn't resist, love the costume. :)
Just a few comments from one of PAD's stalkers from the weekend:
1)DAMN, I knew I shoulda stayed for the costume contest!
2) PAD did, indeed, honor my "unusual" autograph request. First, though, he screwed it up -- then made it even better with a quick fix.
I now have a hardcover copy of Q Squared autographed in the front by PAD, and p. 339 -- "Derailment," Chapter 6 -- signed first "Best, Peter David" and "Worst, David Peters."
If anyone needs a refreshing, it's the three-paragraph chapter that shows three different incidents in Ten Forward.
3) PAD cheerfully posed with my blog's mascot for a photo I will prize forever -- see here for the picture in question.
Thanks again, PAD. Can't stand your politics, but you're always a class act.

Huh. I was upset that I never got to meet PAD at Shore Leave, and now I find out that I was standing right next to him in the green room before Masquerade...
(I was Arnold Rimmer, with my pal Mr. Flibble.)
Looks great! Sorry I didn't make it up to the con--with neither The Usual Suspects nor Prometheus Radio Theatre performing, I wasn't involved in any programming and figured I'd just come up to say Hi to a couple of folks, but I never quite managed to get up there.

Tsk! Beast-iality AND cross-dressing! For shame, sir!
So, PAD, is this you in your "blue period"?
Seriously, congratulations on the win!
I just read Kath's description of the sketch. Wonderful.
So I'm reading over at Mark Evanier's site about "Furries" at Anthrocon. (people who get sexual satisfaction dressed up like stuffed animals.)

Then I come to this site and see the photo. So Peter, do you have something to tell us?

Dangit! I was down in OC MD over last weekend too!
You guys look great! (Some of my all time fav characters right there!) Kathleen does such a great job with costumes!
I missed the Costumes, but had a blast at Shore Leave. All the guests were wonderful- Claudia Christian, Casey Biggs, Aaron Douglas, Gwynyth Walsh et al. It was nice to say hello to PAD and also very nice to catch KRAD's reading. Looking forward to the next one in February.
Hey PAD, have you had a chance to watch the last two episodes of Drive? FOX isn't broadcasting them, but they're online at:

Uhmm, no, the fursuiters don't do it for sexual satisfaction, no more than the folks who dress as Klingons, Medival(sp?) people, or historical reconstructionalists (i.e. folk who dress in Civil War-era outfits, or Revolutionary War-era outfits, ect.) do those things. They do it for fun, nothing more. The fact that _SOME_ do it for sexual jollies doesn''t mean they all do it to get their jollies.
A 'Furry' is really anyone who likes cartoon/anthromorpic animals. It's a fairly loose term. As one FAQ on the subject put it: You think Tony the Tiger is grrrrreat? Then you're a Furry.
Fursuiting is a sub-category of Furry. Folks who get sexual jollies from it are in a seperate sub-category.
Chris
Jason, Fox did air the final two episodes of Drive--on the evening of July 4, thereby ensuring that even fewer people would see them than saw the first four.
At least, that's what they told TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly. I did set my VCR before going out on 7/4, but I haven't had a chance to watch the tape yet. I assume that if I pop that tape in I'll find the last two episodes of Drive. It could very well be an American Idol clip show, or a Very Special Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader? or something else the Fox braintrust thought we'd rather see...
My DVR was set to record any new Drive episodes and nothing came up. I've also seen many people write online that FOX changed their minds and didn't actually broadcast it. That's why I didn't bother to look for it manually on the 4th. You might want to check that tape.

I got all my info from an episode of CSI, so I don't understand how I was lead astray :-)

That's an overly broad definition. It includes such a large group of people that the word wouldn't be at all useful. That would be like saying that everyone who ever dressed up for Halloween is a Wiccan.
I can understand if the term "furry" can be used more than just the sexual freaks. I can definitely understand if people dislike the association enough to try and make the term more appealing by making it seem more common. But it's only going to confuse people if you try to say that a furry is everyone who ever laughed at the Trix Rabbit.
First off, on-topic: Great costumes and premise! Congratulations, PAD family, on what I'm sure were well-earned awards!
Fox never aired the last two episodes of Drive. I learned through Whedonesque.com about Fox's changing plans for the broadcasting; initially, they were going to switch it to the 13th, but ended up scratching that, too, and opting for straight-to-web. Paul 1963, you have a tape of (if you don't want the surprise spoiled, don't finish reading this sentence ;) ... BTW, my local TV/cable guide also still had Drive listed on the 4th, even though I'd heard about at least the first change a couple of weeks prior) Anger Management. (I did turn on Fox for a minute that night, just to confirm.) Woo.
Sorry to completely derail the thread, but I thought I'd mention one more thing, just in case Cowboy Pete doesn't start a thread weighing in on those last two Drive episodes. (I'd love to hear your thoughts on those episodes, PAD.)
If you want to know what would have happened in the show, Tim Minear and executive producer Craig Silverstein tell us at
