Captain Quirk

Well, this is cool. According to the following source, this is one of the quirkiest blogs on the internet...

Bow down. Bow down before Captain Quirk, I say.

And hey, check out the folks I'm in company with.

Hey, Peter's keeping company with Gillian Anderson!

(Oh, wait -- "in company". Drat.)

That's how I found you. Hello.

Posted by: Knuckles at August 4, 2005 12:16 PM

But would you rather be known as "The Author", "The Comic Book Writer" or "Peter David, Bon Vivant"?

Posted by: Rich Johnston at August 4, 2005 12:23 PM

That's The Independent - a major UK newspaper. Which I bought this morning (partially because they've started the Bridget Jones column again). I'll see if I can send you the page in question.

K-nuck:

Peter David, King Of All That He Perceives.

RichJ: Shouldn't you be researching stuff on Pat Lee and DreamEngine?? Get back to work, buddy! ;-)

That baby's blog is some stiff competition XD

Posted by: Knuckles at August 4, 2005 01:30 PM

Yeah, when you're up against babies, hookers and chefs, being an author seems so very pedestrian.

Posted by: Jason at August 4, 2005 03:19 PM

Wouldn't the blog of the prostitute servicing men with a foot fetish be both stiffer competition and more pedestrian?

I could have gone my whole life without having the knowledge that Barbara Streisand has a blog forced on me, and would have been better off for it. Thanks a lot, Peter.

Congratulations on the international recognition! I certainly think that this site's worthy of the attention :) (And they chose a very good sample posting, clever and funny.)

I am curious about the criteria of the author(s?) of this piece. Were they already aware of most or all of the blogs [which reminds me: Does "blog" just stand for "binary log", or what? The term is everywhere, but I've never seen an explanation of its origin or exact meaning] presented in the article, or did they look for "a rock star", "a cat lover", "a fading star", etc. ? Does this mean that you, PAD, have the quirkiest site by an author on the entire Internet?

Either way - I'm bowing, Captain, I'm bowing :)

Posted by: BrakYeller at August 4, 2005 05:43 PM

"Blog" is shorthand for "weblog", so far as I've always heard.

And, hey, wasn't "Captain Quirk" the title of a *very* unflattering unauthorized biography of William Shatner?

Posted by: Scavenger at August 4, 2005 05:57 PM

Jason: very clever! bwahahah!

What's disappointing is that that same article seems to have caused a lot of problems for at least one of the bloggers... I went to check the baby's blog archives only to discover that the site went down because of bandwidth issues related to the article followed by criticism and abuse from some people who disliked the style. Sad, but true.

You keep quirky company?

I resemble that remark!

Posted by: John at August 5, 2005 01:06 AM

You're misdirecting the blame, Will. Blame the Independent. They're the ones who labeled Babs as quirky.

Posted by: gvalley at August 5, 2005 05:10 AM

I'll give you a live chicken for a signed complete run of Fallen Angel.

Captain Quirk was also the name of a clown I worked with on a few occasions, years ago when I was doing volunteer clowning.

Besides, I thought it was "Writer of Stuff," not "Author." Or would it be "The precursor to Keith R.A. DeCandido?"

Does Brian Michael Bendis have a Blog?

Posted by: JamesLynch at August 5, 2005 09:45 AM

There's a card for Captain Quirk in the Steve Jackson Games game STAR MUNCHKIN. He has what could be the most sexually suggestive Bad Stuff in the game. ("He tries to open hailing frequencies and come in peace. Lose 1 Level if you are wearing any Armor. Otherwise, lose 3 Levels. Yes, men too.")

Posted by: John at August 5, 2005 02:34 PM

I think jinxworld is his 'official site'. There's a msgboard there, but no blog.

Posted by: Knuckles at August 5, 2005 05:51 PM

Volunteer clowning? That sounds so John Wayne Gacey...

Congrats Mr. David!

I must say, I am disapointed you didn't beat out Moby and the Politician for the top spot.

I have a question, somewhat off topic, but I don't know where else to put it. I was rooting around in the archives a while ago, and you had a feature called "Last Thought for the Night." What happened to it? I thought most of them were hilarious and thought provoking....I dunno, I was just wondering.

Congragulations again on having your quirkiness confirmed by an independent news source.
