Sequel to Buffy's "Hush?"

A news item in today's paper said that London residents are being stricken with a mysterious illness that's rendering them mute.

Fortunately enough, both Tony Head and Allyson Hannigan are in London at the present time. I'm sure that if Sarah Michelle Geller can be talked into heading out there, the three of them should be able to attend to it in no time.

Oh, how the conspiracy theorists are going to play with THIS one...

Sarah Michelle Gellar's already been afflicted with the mysterious disease.

That's why EVERY SINGLE ORIGINAL CAST MEMBER OF BtVS (that's been asked) has agreed to return to the new Buffy cartoon and lend their distinctive voices... While she just can't seem to bring herself to do it.

Hell, Gene Hackman-- arguably the greatest actor of his generation-- does Lowe's Hardware commercial voice-overs now... And he finds a way (just like everything he does) to make the commercials entertaining AND dignified.

Plus, he takes the money and laughs all the back to his privately owned ISLAND.

" Sarah Michelle Gellar's already been afflicted with the mysterious disease. "

Just like in the episode...hmmmm.

buffy cartoon?
seriously?

Posted by: pgavigan at May 24, 2004 12:45 AM

My guess about a Buffy cartoon.

Not Seriously.

Only source that I have been able to find any current information about has been the "Aint It Cool", with the 'Hercules' byline.

This is notorious for putting up baseless rumors.

I have accessed some further information but it seems to be dated.

Be nice though, wouldn't it?

PAD, don't be daft. Like Willow would NEED Buffy's help these days?

Besides, if they need a girly scream, there's always Andrew. :p

First I've heard of it.

But then, I suppose that comes with the territory.

We've only just got over the zombie apocalypse down out local pub, now this!

Joss Whedon said in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview that the Buffy cartoon was still going to happen. He didn't go into any further details, though.

The Buffy cartoon died in development a long time ago. Jeph Loeb was involved in the creation of it. There is a website somewhere that has all the model sheets for the cartoon. But we won't be seeing it. It died three or four years ago.

Won't stop people from starting bad rumors and saying nasty things about stars not performing in shows that are not in production though.

The cartoon was to be set back in Buffy's High school days, but would have had Dawn in it. If anyone was wondering.

The animated series did die long ago, but, like with Buffy herself, its death appears to not be permanent.

Joss mentioned the animated series in Entertainment Weekly. Nicholas mentioned doing voice work for it at a recent convention. Alyson's mom mentioned her daughter had done some voice work for an animated version of the show recently. I'm pretty sure three out of three sources aren't all wrong. (I'd post links to the sources, but you can find all of them at http://www.whedonesque.com with just a little bit of work).

Hey PAD. Where did you see this? It hasn't hit the "rumor list" here at the CDC. (Which, granted, isn't saying much.)

On Zombies...

Totally, if you lot haven't been blessed with Shaun of the Dead yet then start campaigning or somethin' since that was the best movie out so far this year in cinema over in the UK.

Simon Pegg... we are not worthy!

I assume you meant me when you wrote "people" since I was the one who said that Sarah was not willing to add her to voice to the Buffy cartoon.

Although I would hardly characterize what I said as "nasty"-- just truthful-- you really ought to know who (whom?) you are talking about before you start casting aspersions on them and stating they start "bad rumors".

And, yes, I know I use a "false" screen name. There's a reason for that.

But what I state-- when not clearly phrased as my opinion-- is always true to the best of my knowledge.

The cartoon is a GO. As of this moment, Sarah's NOT doing it.

Draw your own conclusions.

This is about the only current information about the Buffy animated series that I could find that would be considered reliable. It is a direct quote from Whedon at the Entertainment Weekly site.

ANY SPIN-OFFS IN THE WORKS?

At present, there's only one: an animated ''Buffy,'' filled with ''all the things we couldn't afford, and all the jokes that were much too silly.''

Now I interpret this as being in development, not necessarily as something that is slated in to any networks schedule.

Strange to say, I found to my surprise that I'm really not too interested in seeing Miss Summers and her troupe again. I guess that the final season of Angel throughly deconstructed the characters for me. As Mr. David occasionally suggested, the Scoobies continually acted in such a way that was totally out of character.

Please believe me when I state that I do hope the show finds its way on air. I'm certain that it would be worth while and very entertaining to the majority of the fans.

It's just no longer high on my wish list anymore.

I always thought the "Buffy" cartoon was a pipe dream. It would HAVE to be for kids to get a major studio behind it; no American company in this day and age is going to make a cartoon for adults. And the Japanese just aren't interested.

And to make it for kids, Buffy couldn't stake the vampires - that's imitatable violence. She would have to wave a magic wand, or drop an anvil on them, or put dynamite into their pants - the only permissible violence according to Standards and Practices. (Anyone ever see the animated "Highlander" cartoon, and how they sidestepped the bloody beheadings that all you gorehounds used to love? Terrible.)

It seems to me that Whedon, unlike most fantasy producers, is willing to talk stuff up to see if the fans will bite - and then tries to sell the pipe dream to a production company because "the fans are clamoring for it."

Do you think it would be like a kim Possible cartoon or more like the new star wars? :P

You know, I heard the same rumors about the cartoon. While I will believe it when I see it (someone I know actually sent a story idea to the then-rumored, almost slam dunk "Buffy" cartoon over six years ago) I really have to take exception who, whenever someone says something not entirely positive about Gellar, is accused of "bashing" her.
Look, I like SMG a lot. In interview, she seems intelligent and personable, and she gave us all hours of entertainment and memories.
But I do not like the way she left.
It's like the Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders. Not only was he one of the best, he was also one of the classiest players to put on a uniform (handed the ball to the official after a touchdown, never trash-talked, etc.) But when he retired, it was right before the season. It caught the whole team off guard, and since it came so soon before the season, it left the lions without the time or means to find a replacement. He didnt like the coach, so he basically screwed the organization. It was a bad way to go out
With SMG, she decided to leave and basically upset Joss and the rest of the cast. Every other cast member could have been compensated for if they left, but of course there could be no Buffy without Buffy. And with castmates like Hannigan who had arguably more success in movies and still wanted to continue the show, her decision just hurt a lot of people. This was not MASH, where a majority of the stars wanted to call it quits. It was a decision basicaly made by one person. So it hurts.
Does SMG owe them or us anything? Absolutely not. It's her life. She should be free to do what she wants.
But that doesn't mean she couldn't have handled things better and could continue to, and i have the freedom to say that. So I will continue to do so.

This is the latest information that I have been able to gather.

Apparently the BUFFY ANIMATED is having a sort of pilot produced for several "interested parties". Several cast members, Brendon and Hannigan have recorded for it, there is one notable exception.

Jane Espenson, who has just signed a two-year deal with 20th Century Fox Television, after being recommended by Whedon, will be producing "Tru Calling among other projects for the studio" has been mentioned as being a leading canidate for executive producer/writer.

Still isn't slated into any time slot on any network so please don't get your hopes up.

Perhaps the rumored revival of the Dark Horse comic might be contengent on this show making air.
