WHAD'JA THINK? CAPTAIN MARVEL #20

The second installment in Marv's time-spanning adventures as he seeks not only to save Marlo, but determine just how he'll be remembered by future generations. Whad'ja think?

Now this is more like it because I thought the latest issue of Cap M was pretty darn great. I really like the new penciller too (although I still do not like the coloring method being used). I can't wait for the next issue to come out!

I loved the issue--and it is great to see more mention of Genis and Songbird's kids. I was surprised at how much Ely looks like Rick Jones! Odd coincidence, or have Genis and Rick's molecular bonding had more of an effect than we realized?

But the big question is: Where Is Lorraine?!?! Marlo has been back for two issues now, and there hasn't been a peep out of the world's most caustic ghost! I can't believe she'd keep quiet this long.

good issue... aaron lopresti is a nice change of pace. Not my ideal choice for regular penciller for the book, but then again, no one compares to cross...

loved the buffy line. Phyla's growing on me a little... but i take it she's not going to be around for long?

Hell, this books not gonna be around for long, is it??

I would be happy if Aaron Lopresti stayed around on art. It's lightyears beyond the work on the last few issues.

As a reader who wasn't wild about the "Genis is insane" storyline I'm glad to see him acting a bit more normal. I'm enjoying the storyline so far. Keep up the good work. Sorry I don't have anything constructive to say. :)

Actually, I can't say it was a great issue, but it was fascinating. I wanted it to keep going and be a double-sized issue. I would call it great, as it was highly entertaining, but there just wasn't enough there.

Of course, this is a review as of yesterday, and my opinion will change once the story continues.

And the Buffy line was cute.

I really enjoyed the issue, and the new penciller is a vast improvement, but I was left with some questions.

I was curious as to why future Genis told current Genis that he would not be able to stop the handfull of foot troops coming to attack them when Genis himself faired extremely well against 3 armada's of those same aliens.

Also, does does Genis actually age to the point whereas he becomes an old man in 150 years? And is he less powerful at this age? I ask because the Kree army couldn't phase him after he killed their captain on the planet Genis had conquered, yet ground troops critically injured the future Genis. Also, is Genis less powerful when sane?

Maybe it will be revealed, but I am curious as to whether the apparent merger of Genis and his future self and the effect will be permenant.

As far as the issue goes, I considered it very entertaining and I am sticking around for the long haul.

I loved it PAD. Is it my imagination or does Genis' power seem to be increasing? Or is it the combination of the Titan's advanced technology? How is the merged Captain Marvel going to be now that he has the memories of his future self?

All in all a great read keep up the fantastic work.

Peter,

I find the status of Genis' sanity to be quite interesting. It makes you consider how he acts and reacts. How does his future self react to this? Does he know something? Does Rick or Moondragon? We, the readers, are now debating if Genis is sane or insane.

I've been reading notes here on Marlo & Heather's relationship. Although there is alot of innuendo, there's nothing to say they've had sex. In fact, given their bond, sex may be less intimate.

I waiting to see if you will tie this arc to 'Avengers Forever' or the multitude of future stories. Given that both Genis and Rick were critical parts to that story (creating a perfect future? I may need to reread it), it seems this is where the story's going.

I liked it alot and I am really interested in seeing what happens next. I really like this new side of Marv. However I do have one complaint. Where is the Letter Page???

#20 was kick ass. Lopresti is a good choice for this book.

Loved the Buffy line from Marlo.

Really good issue. I like time-travel stuff a lot, so I'm definitly enjoying this.

Like everybody else has said: the Buffy line was great. very funny. :)

I also have to say that I love the re-cap pages. You know you read it to remember what happened last issue and then suddenly..there's some wacky comments!! Love it. I think this issue's recap wacky comments were especially good!!

Also: Marlo seems interesting, although I really don't know much about her other then she was married to Rick (and that she & Rick both appeared in your Hulk).

Good stuff. Very good title!

As a reader who wasn't wild about the "Genis is insane" storyline I'm glad to see him acting a bit more normal.

And that what's fascinating. He's acting normal but why is he acting normal? Furthermore, does future Genis know and how, if anything, does this impact on his future self not reacting in time to defend Earth? Why did he tell him(self) to merge?

We're through the looking glass, people.

Well, things keep happening at such a frantic pace that it's no wonder poor Marlo is confused. And no doubt she's the only one! Especially as that's the how-manyeth time travel story she knows her hubby's involved in?

It is a pity we haven't seen anything of what Marlo and Heather have been up to all the time, and I see I'm not the only one who wondered what kind of a relationship the two had (since Moondragon is a telepath one might guess that it might be less physical than for 'normal' lovers, but on the other hand by the evidence of CM vol. 3 Heather seems to have enjoyed kissing Marlo well enough and was receptive to her physical attractiveness. Interesting parallel to Rick, by the way, in that she too refrains from trying to hold Marlo back from going to the romantic rival while putting on a brave face.

Other comments:

1. Love the re-cap page!

2. Where's Lorraine?

3. All I know about Wendy the Werew--, er, Buffy the Vampire Slayer I learned through Peter David comics.

Another great issue, PAD. I particularly loved the scene where Marlo confused Phyla with Genis, including the jibe at "Buffy." LOL.

Also, I'm curious to see what this "merger" will lead to for Captain Marvel. If the last few pages are any indication, I find him even more terrifying than the "insane" one.

Wow. I read it 4 times. The story was GREAT! Great I tell ya. The artwork by Aaron was excellent. It added so much life to the book, but I loved the final pages of the book. You left me wanting more, more, more!

Seeing the aged Genis-Vell raises the question of just how *mortal* he is. I know his father was Kree, but am unsure of his mother. When Doug Moench and Pat Broderick created Elysius, they established that she was not one of the 19 Titans who survived Thanos' attack. Rather, Moench wrote, she was created in I.S.A.A.C.'s lifebaths! She was grown to maturity in very short time and developed an erotic attraction to Eros.

But a lot of Marvel comics have seen print since Elysius' debut and it appears she's been redefined as Eros' *sister*! (Yecch! Cree-py!) So apparently Doug Moench was "wrong" and Elysius is in fact a Titan. But exactly what the Titans are is moot. Though Jim Starlin originally stated that Mentor was a *god* from Olympus, it was later written that he was actually one of the Eternals of Olympia. Starlin wrote that Mentor first arrived at Titan to find a ruined civilization and its sole survivor Sui-San. If the two of them spawned the the race now known as the Titans, that would make the Titans half Eternal and half whatever Sui-San's race was!

Therefore, if Genis is half Titan, he would be *one quarter* Eternal. Would this dilution of his Eternal genes account for his aging so much in a *mere* 150 years? To confuse matters more, I have no idea how long most *Kree* tend to live!

Oh, and now that we're finally seeing Genis' future that we were teased with 3 years ago, I hope we'll find out who the Sin Seers are, as well as the strange figure who appeared at Songbird's grave.

I just am waiting for Phyla to merge with Marlo. Then we have Marvel's oddest couple ever.
